American Shorthair – Bones

About this pet

Bones has a special personality & traumatic past. I love this cat and want to keep him, but want him to have the happiest life possible. Adopters, please have experience with cats with anxiety and be well off enough to afford his regular veterinary care as well as possibly get him on anti-anxiety medication. Bones is one **** of a rolly polly. He will flip, flop, & summersault in the cutest way when given proper affection. He is neutered & had received his first round of vaccinations but is due for an update. He has all claws in-tact yet hasn't used them on me even when I carry or bathe him. He bit me once because he escaped into a dangerous hiding area and I had to use drastic measures to get him out which scared him and endorsed the reaction. He is all bark but no bite otherwise, hisses out of fear but never attacks unless you provoke his reason to be afraid- even then only warnings. Gentle talking & a fearless approach with lots of affection is a one way ticket to snuggleville with this loving boy. He would do best in a home with only one other cat and no dogs and likely no children, depends on how they handle animals. He seems to get along better with friendly cats; anxious cats provoke his fear. A cat who is self assured & secure provides him balance and comfort, I can attest to this with how he interacts with our other cats. His ideal home would be clean & cat proofed, because he was rescued from a cat hoard house where he developed a habit of burying himself in filth and displayed incontinence that has subsided. To make things more clear, he doesn't have issues with aggression, just submission and territorial insecurity. He requires plentiful attention and reassurance and will not come up to you and ask for it. He is very nocturnal & if there is a closed door he will yowl until he gets his way, so he'd do best with the bedroom door open at night so he can come and go as he pleases. He is litter box trained but may prefer a closed box.
