Apollo is approx. 4 years old, 96lb, male, neutered, housebroken, and current on vaccines. He has had 10+ hours of private dog training and is a very sweet, loving boy. he was picked up by the san diego humane society as a stray, and i am the owner. We are located in san diego, ca, but we are willing to roadtrip or fly to you if you decide to take him in. he loves to play fetch and run/roll around in grass. He is also very smart and can learn most tricks within a few minutes. he is a big cuddler and would never pass up on some belly rubs. He is nervous around guests in the house at first, but typically warms up after a few minutes of sniffing and some treats. he is a silly baby and gets a little too excited sometimes, but he returns to baseline fairly quickly. full disclosure: it breaks my heart to part ways with him, but we cannot afford anymore training sessions and he is still reactive to most dogs (growls/barks/lunges) and strangers. My apartment has lots of people & dogs walking around so it is too difficult for me to safely control apollo. The shelter will no longer accept him due to his behavior and their limited resources, and can only offer euthanasia services. I believe he may have been abused by a male(s) in his previous home, as he is more reactive towards men than women. He has separation anxiety and becomes slightly destructive when left alone. He is highly protective/alert - one time he bit a guest that left some bruising but no blood drawn/serious injury. We live in a small apartment so when the guest was exiting the restroom, apollo was startled and went for the bite. I strongly believe that apollo was just scared and let his protective instincts get the best of him in that one moment. We have met with behavior analysts who say his behaviors are all in the typical range of german shepherds - not abnormal. With some more training/confidence exercises and a larger home where he doesn’t feel cramped, he would be a great addition to any loving home.
